A 60-run win over Rajasthan Royals moved the Kolkata Knight Riders from eight positions to the fourth on Sunday night. With 14 points in their kitty, Eoin Morgan & Co has come closer to the qualification.
With two matchdays left in the Indian Premier League (IPL) league stage, four teams are still eyeing three playoff spots. Only Mumbai Indians has qualified and ensured a top-two finish, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are out of the playoff race.
One of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are confirmed to finish at the second spot. The losing team between DC and RCB, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will compete for the third and fourth spot.
A HOPE FOR KKR
With seven wins from 14 matches, KKR is at the fourth spot while SRH is at the fifth spot with six wins from 13 matches. RCB and DC are placed at second and third spot respectively. Despite being in top three, one of DC and RCB can miss out on a place in the playoffs.
On Monday RCB & DC will be playing against each other and irrespective of who wins, if they can keep the margin of the defeat low – both of them will make to IPL 2020 playoffs. For KKR – first way they can make to playoffs is if SRH loses to Mumbai Indians on Tuesday.
Another way for KKR to make to playoffs will be if RCB or DC victory margins are really big. In that case, KKR can overtake the loser on NRR and can qualify. Otherwise, DC & RCB are in a good position to make it to playoffs.
