Ranikhet is a popular hill station located in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. It is situated at an elevation of 1,829 metres above sea level.

The hill station Ranikhet, literally meaning – Queens Land, is an all-season tourist-spot for the admirers of the natural beauty. The place is worth visiting as it gives a scenic view of the giant Himalayan snow-covered peaks.

Historical accounts tell that the Queen Padmini of Kumaon was enchanted by this tiny hill paradise. King Sudhardev obliged her, by building a palace here for and named the place Ranikhet (the queen’s fields).

One of the major tourist attractions in Ranikhet, Jhula Devi Temple is dedicated to goddess Durga and is well-known for its cluster of elegantly designed bells.

Legend has it that this shrine was built in the 8th century. jhula Devi Temple has the deity sitting on a jhula (Hindi word for cradle) and hence the name. The present temple complex, however, was reconstructed in the year 1935. While you are here, also see the famous Ram Mandir, which will be en route to the Chaubatia Orchard.

4.THE KUMAON REGIMENTAL CENTRE

The Kumaon Regimental Centre is a famous museum that was built at the end of the 19-century. Established by Kumaon Regiment of Indian Army, it showcases the rich heredity of the Kumaon Region.

5.RANI JHEEL

Rani Jheel is an artificial lake and one of the popular tourist spot in Ranikhet in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. This small lake was initially constructed by the cantonment board of Indian army for the purpose of rainwater harvesting but now primarily used for boating.
