DDC ELECTIONS IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR
The first phase of Jammu and Kashmir DDC polls and panchayat by-polls starts today. Over seven lakh voters are eligible for voting and about 1427 voters are in the fray.
According to the State Election Commission, there are a total of 280 constituencies in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In the first phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections, 43 constituencies will be facing the ballot between 7 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
The Election Commission also said that 2,146 polling stations have been set up to ensure that the voting process is conducted in a smooth manner.
ELECTIONS WILL CONTINUE TILL DECEMBER 19, RESULTS ON DECEMBER 22
The DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir are the first major political activity since the abrogation of Article 370 provisions on August 5 last year, will be held in eight phases from November 28 to December 19.
Political parties, including the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Conference, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (PC) and the Congress party are contesting the polls as a united front against the BJP and its allies in the region.
