URMILA MATONDKAR JOINS SHIV SENA
Mumbai: Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar joined Shiv Sena in presence of party president and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, his wife Rashmi Thackeray and other Sena leaders at Matoshree on Tuesday afternoon.
Matondkar had unsuccessfully contested last year’s Lok Sabha polls on Congress ticket from Mumbai North constituency.
The Sena has already proposed Matondkar’s name for one of the 12 Governor-nominated seats in the state legislative council, according to the party insiders.
Mantodkar’s induction into Uddhav Thackeray-led party comes several months after she resigned from the Congress party, citing infighting and petty politics.
The actress had made her political debut as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North constituency, which she eventually lost.
According to a Shivsena MLC and party spokesperson, “Urmila Matondkar has always stated that she respects Balasaheb Thackeray. She is a typical Mumbaiite, a Marathi girl who loves the city and wants to work for its development. She is well-read in Marathi literature”.
