LIST OF ODI MATCHES 2021 LIMITED-OVERS INTERNATIONAL CRICKET

LIST OF ODI MATCHES 2021- A one-day international is a form of cricket where each team faces a fixed number of overs, which is currently 50. This format of cricket also known as limited-overs international cricket, although this generic term may also refer to 20-20 International matches.

They are major matches and considered the highest standard of List A, limited-overs competition.

ODI was first developed in the late 20th century.

The first ODI match was played between Australia vs England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 5 January 1971. When the first three days of the third Test were washed out, officials decided to abandon the match and, instead, play a one-off one-day game consisting of 40 eight-ball overs per side(which is currently 50 now). Australia won the game by 5 wickets. ODIs were played in white-colored kits with a red-colored ball. The use of white flannels and a red ball in ODIs ended in 2001.

Now, ODIs are allowed to play in the respective colors of the teams.

The ICC, international cricket’s governing body, maintains the ICC ODI Rankings for teams, batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders. Currently, England is the top-ranked ODI side with a rating of 123, and the second position is toehold by the Indian national team with a rating of 119.

RULES OF ODI

Professionally no games are played without rules. In ODI each team bat and bowl for a fixed number of overs that is 50. In the early days of ODI cricket, the number of overs was generally 60 overs per side,

matches were also played with 40, 45, or 55 overs per side.

Rules are as follows:

  • An ODI match played between two teams with 11 numbers of players on the ground on each side.
  • Whoever wins the toss, the captain decides whether to bowl or bat first.
  • Whoever bats first set the target score in a single inning. The innings lasts until the batting side gets “all-out” or all of the first side’s allotted overs get finished.
  • Each bowler is allowed to bowl for just a maximum of 10 overs. Therefore, each team must comprise at least five competent bowlers.
  • If both the teams make an equal score then the match is declared to be a Tie.

If the same situation happens during quarter finale, semi-finale, or, finale then super over is played between both the teams.

Where several overs are lost, for example, due to inclement weather conditions, then the total number of overs may be reduced. In the early days of ODI cricket, the team with the better run-rate won (see Average Run Rate method), but this favored the second team.

FIELDING RESTRICTIONS AND POWERPLAY

As per the ICC Playing Handbook, the following are the latest Powerplay rules for a 50-over ODI:

Powerplay 1:

  • Overs: 1 to 10
  • Fielding restrictions: Maximum 2 fielders outside the 30-yard circle

Powerplay 2:

  • Overs: 11 to 40
  • Fielding restrictions: Maximum 4 fielders outside the 30-yard circle

Powerplay 3:

  • Overs: 41 to 50
  • Fielding restrictions: Maximum 5 fielders outside the 30-yard circle

Trial regulations

The trial regulations also introduced substitution rule that allowed the introduction of replacement player at any stage in the match, until he was called up to play, he assumed the role of 12th man. Teams nominated their replacement player, called a Supersub, before the toss. The Supersub could bat, bowl, field, or keep wicket once a player was replaced; the replaced player took over the role of 12th man.

Over the six months, it was in operation, it became very clear that the Supersub was of far more benefit to the side that won the toss, unbalancing the game. Several international captains reached “gentleman’s agreements” to discontinue this rule late in 2005.

They continued to name Super subs, as required, but they did not field them by simply using them as a normal 12th man. On 15 February 2006, the ICC announced their intention to discontinue the Supersub rule on 21 March 2006. 2 balls trialed in ODI for 2 years but it was rejected.
